March Madness

First of all Happy Birthday Dad!! I love you and I hope you have a GREAT day!!

* Dad told me this was 1958 in Trinidad when he was in the Navy!!

Not only is March a big birthday month for us, March is going to be a BUSY month for Fit this girl and in my life!!

  • A trip to Chicago to see my fave band In the Cinema
  • My last day at my current job!
  • A St. Patties Day race!
  • Tons of giveaways here at Fit this girl!
  • The MN Real Food conference
  • A BIG test for part of my Leap of Faith
  • An internship for part of my new career path...
  • Some volunteering!
  • The Restore Holistic Expo I went to this weekend...
  • New irons in the fire and wheels turning in my head there is SO much ahead!

Not to mention spring is right around the corner, it's been above 30 degrees all week and everything is melting! I feel like I am hunkered down at a starting line just waiting for the beginning of so many wonderful things!

Spring always feels like a time to start over and get moving on goals that have fallen to the way side or taken back seat. I have more ambition and more energy when the sun is out, the snow is melting away and everything seems to come to life.

One of the things I have been thinking of is having a schedule I stick to. I don't really have a set schedule for much of anything in home or personal life (save for when I am training for a race, which I get to focus on more again!)

A wake-up time
a bedtime
specific classes that I hit at the gym
nightly (or morning) runs
 time for myself
time to keep my apartment straightened
Quiet time for me and the Man Upstairs
 reading for FUN
(this completely falls to the way-side--SO sad!)
& blog time!

Sound familiar? Haven't I ranted about making time for these things before?
Well this life is not about the destination, it's about the journey and if I find myself having to refocus and reset, no worries!

In the meantime,  I think a better schedule is in order so I can be on top of all these important things!

Right now this is what most of my "calendar" items look like, a giant list by date:

???????

When I have this GREAT Franklin Planner that is current, and I can use daily for scheduling what I have going on! It is about 4 dollars a year to replace the calendar and is in a really nice, zipper planner case.

I tackled my to do list issue and blogged about it when I bought D.E.B. or my dry erase board, but the schedule thing is something I am going to have to get a handle on especially for my next chapter in life, I will need to be large and in charge of my every hour.

I am going to come up with a plan for some structure and try and make it stick!  I think using the planner for events,  meetings, races etc and the D.E.B.  for to do lists is the way to go. I am also going to utilize ICal as a way to set reminders for the urgent appointments. I think gold stars may be in order as well....I will have to figure that portion out!

Do you guys use a certain calendar or planner system?
Do you plan things like your races and workout days far in advance?

I don't use a calendar...but I'm in the market! I need a daily/weekly/monthly to-do list system, ASAP! I'll be watching here for any ideas you have to share...

Sounds like you've got some fun stuff coming up!! I'm guilty of having too many calendars and then not putting everything in all of them. On the computer I really like Google calendar since i can access it from anywhere :)

I love using a planner, but I have a hard time finding one that I can fit my to-do lists in. I would like to be able to have room for my workouts, as well as work and personal things going on!

I use Google Calendar and it is my life saver! Keeps me organized for workouts, social events, work stuff, recipes and blogging.

Guess who COMPLETELY forgot her planner at home and is now jotting races and dates on paper. Humph. Step one: bring it WITH you. :)

I really like the idea of having a set schedule... I'm going to work to make this happen too! :) I definitely need to work on managing my time better so this will be a great start. (I use a google calendar & that's about it..)

I've tried electronic calendars (e.g. Palms, iCal, Google, Outlook and such) without much success. I've used DayRunners, Franklin Covey, etc in the past as well since I'm a write-it-down type of girl. But lately I've been sticking with the tried and true DayMinder - it's thin enough to fit in my bag and take everywhere. Plus, I can stick post-it notes over it and they dont go anywhere.

I have a day planner that I use and LOVE. Couldn't live without it.
I plan my races months in advance but my workouts are more like I hope to do this today and then I see how it goes.

I plan, plan, plan but don't always follow, follow, follow! My favorite calendar is a week at a glance spiral paper jobbie. I use my phone for alerts but in general love the old fashioned committing things to paper!

I loved my Franklin Planner!! I finally gave it up last year because I have an iPhone and I use iCal. It got too be too many calendars with my Franklin plus the iCal and my desk calendar with all my work related appointments.
Get a Franklin that's comfortable--my first Franklin was nice and it had a cell phone pocket on the front, which I ended up never using and I found made it difficult to write in the planner because the page didn't lay flat.
My latest Franklin was perfect. It was sleek and fit nicely in my shoulder bag. It was also very sleek and lovely to look at...I do miss it, but I love the flexibility of the iPhone/iCal combo.

Oh, I hope to see an update on how this is working for you! I am also in dire need of a "schedule"! I run my own business, homeschool, and am training for some races... I am so disorganised and I know everyone in my house would benefit from me being less so!
I have tried using a dayplanner before, but it never sticks. I don't know what to do about it. I prefer paper, because I just get stuck on the computer (like now!) and don't have a cell phone to take with.
Anyway, good luck!!

I have to use a calendar or I would schedule more than one thing at a time on certain days. Kogua dog and I are getting ready to do some fun runs for the local rescue organizations. One of our favorites is the Fast and Furriest. I'm glad spring is coming and today its beautiful. Well back to studying for midterms. Take care Mary,
kelly
