2-a-Day's


It is official: I want a lap top! It was official before, but now I feel that it's logical!! I went for an early morning run with friends Jen, Alexa and Meghan!  The accountability of meeting someone for a run at 5:45 am is awesome: there was NO traffic, Minneapolis was quiet and the lake was beautiful!  I ran 6.75 miles and grabbed a coffee before 7am! 


I had dropped my stuff off right at the gym which is about a half a mile from the lake, so I took my coffee there, stretched out and started reading! I had an hour and a half till I had to teach my Group Fitness class! It was about this time I realized if I had a lap top I could be writing, working, scheduling... more productive. Hm. 


I am thinking something like this: A little pink laptop with a make-up kit USB! 
YES PLEASE! 


There is something to be said for taking a break, doing some real reading and unplugging, but there is something to really using my downtime between classes and meetings to check more off. 

I decided that it was a double run day, so instead of taking a huge chunk of time to do a long run, I did 2 medium length runs! I really liked it, the first run was so early,  and the longer of the two. Around 6pm I headed out and ran another 4 miles around the lake and home which seemed so short! 

Two-a-days: 
  • Break up workouts
  • Help you train at a faster pace
  • Speeds recovery
  • Can be done on speedwork days as recovery runs
  • Ideal when you are running very high milage (50 or more miles a week (which I am NOT!)) 


I am giving them a try to get some more miles under my belt and have some fun. Run #2 was slower and shorter and ended with a trip to the grocery store--a spinach run!


I JUST missed the storm clouds rolling in! (quit flashin' that duck face!!)
When I got home I made a gigantic Green Monster with huge spinach leaves! It was not kale, but they were huge! It was SUPER thick. 

3 Cups huge prehistoric spinach
1T. cashew butter
One banana
1.5-2 Cups Soy milk (added more to thin it out!)
1/4 C. Chia Seeds--oops! I over measured, but it ROCKED. I think the Chia contributed to the thickness, you know how those little suckers hold liquid! 

Behold, The CHIA Machine! 


In a new glass and all! 
I know some people I follow like Shelly at It's just one foot in front of the other do 2-a-days, Do you? If you do, what do you like about them?

I would love to do two a day its just a matter of finding the time in the evening. I think the treadmill for even a few miles should work.

I do break up my running which is in the morning and other workouts in the evening.

I have been craving cabbage lately and hubby has made lots of cabbage soup for me!

OMG, I could never do 2 runs in 1 day. I can hardly do 1, ha ha! No really, I am in good shape but 2 in 1 day would be super tough.

Can I just ask you, WHERE did you get your awesome running skirt? I need another one and love that pink one of yours! So cute!

I love two a days, because I can get in mileage without a lot of stress on my body. Two a days keep my legs loose and fresh!

I like 2 a days because you can get a lot of training in without taxing your body as much

Oh, hey, Mary--one more thing--just wanted you to know that yesterday at about 5 p.m. I went out on my HILLY run, and after reading and commenting on your post yesterday about hills, when it got really hard I truly did repeat to myself over and over that I could do it, because Mary was climbing hills too! :) (Literally and figuratively for both of us!) Isn't it nice how someone you've never met can be a source of inspiration and comfort and motivation to you? Thank you for that! (I made it up all the hills. But it was killer!)

I wish I had time for 2-a-days! With work and the kids, though, it's hard.

I have been thinking this might be a good solution for me this summer as I try to get in more miles... and avoid the heat!!

Love that laptop! But you do so much... some downtime is good for you too!!

Like Shan love your pink workout skirt. They look comfy to run in, maybe I will try one.

I was motivated again, this time to jog more miles. By dividing it I was able to. They all add up. Thanks.

I do love two-a-days but not in the running sense...and until I am more fit, mine are shorter bursts, 20 minutes each biking. I am finding it keeps my metabolism burning hot! Who knew?

YOu look adorable in that skirt, too. With all your fitness activities, your bold step out (and up I think!) and your exuberant spirit, you are my hero!
