Keeping fit and healthy on vacation!

First--don't neglect your routine! If you are used to working out in the morning: going for a run, doing some yoga--keep up with it! Even if you are only doing a few minutes, it's better than nothing and you will feel better! We all love being on vacation, so chances are you have a little extra energy. Channel that and get up 30-45 minutes earlier. Take a run on the beach, do some yoga in your room, walk around the city with a coffee, make time for your routine!

Second, eat light. There is always a temptation on vacay to induldge--you are out on the town so why not eat, drink & be merry!  Just make sure that SOME of your choices are a little on the light side. Opt for light beer at the bar, some healthy favorites like sushi or chicken nachos- light on the cheese. Ask about local fare that is new to you and healthy! You can enjoy your vacay food without feeling heavy or that you are making decadant choices.

OR Make your own! On this trip, I am saving my spending cash for surf lessons, snorkling, sight seeing and two special meals out (one being the Sushi above--it's Hawaii!) But I have oatmeal, trailmix, granola bars, banana's, yogurt, meat, cheese, bread and soup with me in the hotel room so I can DIY with most all of my meals. It saves money and I know exactly what I am eating and that I am not OVER indulging. This way too, I can pick and choose the special meals I want to go out for and create memories around, not just having a lunch out daily.

Take advantage of things like your room's coffee pot for heating hot water for oatmeal, noodles, dehydrated soups etc! Think McGyver style and you will find a lot of ways to eat smart, save time and use your money for things that creat memories.

Third-- find the fitness Center. Nearly all hotels have them. The plan was another short run this morning, but it was raining, so I hit the fitness center and worked my back, biceps, shoulders and Abs. It felt great and was very easy to find and get in! Most hotel fitness centers are outfitted for every exercise from lifting to cardio--find it!

Don't take the easy way. Go that extra mile, carry your luggage, walk instead of riding the little sidewalk escalator. It's your vacation so take it easy and enjoy, but remember that the journey we are on is always a process so challenge your self at the same time. A day off is still a day to use to become who we want to be and who we really are!!

ENJOY!
