Strengths Finder & MDRA

Happy Friday!! Woot! What a great day yesterday was--when I woke up and logged on to FB, 46 people had already wished me a happy birthday. The day went on and well over 100 of my friends dropped in to say hello on my page! THANK YOU guys, I was overwhelmed with LOVE this week!

It's no secret that on top of the fitness, running and training love her at Fit this, Girl! that I LOVE motivational work, self work and working on strengths and development. In all honesty, its really come around since leaving my corporate job last year and starting on my personal training path. It really IS running your own business. I have to sell training, I manage my clients, my own schedule, my hours and all the prep, planning and creation of classes and programs. It's AWESOME.  Its a huge change, but I am really enjoying creating this career!

In my past, I had always focused more on my short comings and weaknesses than on my strengths. Now, I realize that that was SO backwards from what I should be doing! FIND your strengths, know your strengths, WORK your strengths and try and see the strength even in weak points.

I broke down, bought the book and did the strengths finder test. It was SO worth it. I hate the test itself though where both options may be true, but you should go with your gut instinct and pick the first one you think. I feel like I am always contradicting myself, but that's since we have so many sides I guess. I had to love this question though and my gut reaction. I want people to adore me.

Mary's Strengths:

Restorative: I love to solve problems or fix things. My word does this just smack of the role I played in my family, but yes. I see it.

Relator: Comfortable with intimacy, after connection, I deepen the relationship. It involves risk, but the more you share with that person, the more you risk together. Love it.

Command: Leads me to take charge. I need things to be clear between people, push them to take risks and have presence. Command. This is not always a comfortable place, but is natural once in it. Does that make sense? It's part of accepting my power.

Signifigance: I want to be signifigant and recognized in the eyes of others. An independant spirit, you want your work to be a way of life rather than a job. OH HECK yes. Yes again.

Futuristic: I love to peer over the horizon. I see in detail what the future holds, a dreamer who see's visions of what could be and they energize me and others. Wow. That is so true...

I am fitting into these categories more and more with my work, my career and life!
I am SO excited to see how well they really match up with my goals and dreams, it's a huge step in the right direction. Knowing my strengths, I can move foward with all their suggestions on how to impliment them daily and to better be my AUTHENTIC self!

Minnesota Distance Running Association (MDRA):

Best gift ever! My Dad got me a membership to Minnesota Runing Association!! It comes with a monthly magazine, a free running log and FREE races! I love it, I have been wanting to be a member for years and never got around to it! Thanks DAD--what a wonderful gift!

I can't wait to do  my first free race and post about it!! I will be updating my race schedule soon...stay tuned!

I love the Strength Finder! My top strengths were:

If I look back on any job I've had that was unbearable, they all are way off from my strengths. Knowing this is definitely part of the happiness puzzle!

I've never done that strength test, but love how you answered honestly. :) When I saw your tweet about it, I thought you said it told you to be a Realtor! Ha!

Loved this article!

I too did the strengthfinder - my strengths were:

Woo - love the challenge of meeting new people and winning them over. They derive satisfaction from breaking the ice and making a connection with another person.
Maximizer -focus on strengths as a way to stimulate personal and group excellence. They seek to transform something strong into something superb.
Activator - can make things happen by turning thoughts into action. They are often impatient.
Positivity- have an enthusiasm that is contagious. They are upbeat and can get others excited about what they are going to do.
Communication - generally find it easy to put their thoughts into words. They are good conversationalists and presenters.
