Wednesday Word & Weight: Sled Work

Word & Weight

James 1:22-25
But be ye doers of the word, and not hearers only, deceiving your own selves.
For if any be a hearer of the word, and not a doer, he is like unto a man beholding his natural face in a glass:
For he beholdeth himself, and goeth his way, and straightway forgets what manner of man he was.
But whoso looks into the perfect law of liberty, and continueth therein, he being not a forgetful hearer, but a doer of the work, this man shall be blessed in his deed.

When we HEAR we need to DO. 
When the bible says love your neighbor, but we pass them by when their car is stalled that is not doing. 
When the bible says Love God with all your heart, but we log on Face book before we crack open HIS book that is not doing. 
When we SAY we will pray for someone, do we drop to our knees and DO it or do we say it too look good and make them "feel" better? 

When we DO as we are called, we will be blessed, we are able to pour out from ourselves because God has filled us up. We are able to DO because we accepted his perfect work for us, we are able to LOVE because he first loved us. Do not deceive yourself, sitting in church, feeling lifted up is NOT where we stop, but we step out and DO the love of God, put into practice the love, spread the LOVE of God. 

DO the LOVE. 

Sled Work:

Adding weight to your speed work will work wonders for your sport training and your running. But you can do more than just push a sled around. Here I am seated, working back, biceps and core to pull a sled down to me AND push it back. It's an excellent upper body and back workout because seated we are unable to use our legs for help. Those biceps and lats are doing the brunt of the work. 

Pulling hand over hand and with nice long pulls, I am hitting my Lats, biceps and feeling the burn in my lungs too as I am pulling 115 pounds, nearly my body weight with those single arm long pulls. It's a GREAT warm up or last exercise to really get your body revved up! Then? Yes, the push back, glutes, hammies and quads will hate you, but you will love the way your legs feel. It's a little different from the normal "weight" exercises I show, but if you can find a place to work with a sled, I recommend it for a total conditioning workout!!
